There are increasingly proposals for states to use historical information about crime and individual behavior to predict future acts of criminality. The state of Wisconsin uses a software program that tries to predict which criminals are most likely to commit future crime. In 2016, the nonprofit ProPublica reviewed risk assessments for 7,000 suspects in Broward County, Florida,. Overall, it found twice as many blacks labeled higher risk, yet did not re-offend.
