Garbage collectors used to be the swats. It's a lot better these days in modern job skop engines. But th problem was that when a jo a garbage collector would kick in, the application would effectively freeze while the garbage collector was doing its job. This could be catastrophic if you're using javo scrip to program,. let's say, the code for the space shuttle re entrancy and maybe to control a nuclear reactor or something.
