The COO Alliance is the world's leading community for the Second in Command. You do not have to give out equity to get good employees. Gen Y has gotten very good at asking, and baby boomers have got really bad at saying no. I'm going to create a good company, a good culture, but you don't have to giving out equity. And as recently as today, I had to talk a CEO off a cliff when their potential COO was asking for 20% equity in their company.
