The History of Jim Bowie

After his family's death in 1834, Bowie largely wandered and may have surrendered to drink more than he should as he tried to regain his personal and financial balance. After one supposed brawl in San Antonio, he asked a friend why he had not come in to help in the scuffle. Don't you suppose I know that as well as you do? Replied Bowie. That's just why I needed a friend. If I had been in the right, I would have had plenty of them.
