The Role of Fear in Relationship Building

St. Thomas Aquinas says fear is a sin against fortitude, a sin against courage and can be a gift of the Holy Spirit which perfects hope and also perfects temperance. So we want to be careful in how we build up our picture of fear because there can be good and bad dimensions. The difficulty of obtaining that good thing is so significant that you basically relegate yourself to one who will eat Chick-fil-A this afternoon. That's what happened to Father Jacob Bertrand on his way out to Colorado for summer projects. He just gave up... I mean, agony, dismay, pain, even if you're able to overcome it.
