The Shepherds, the Shepherds of Popular Tradition
The shepherds are such great figures because we might be tempted to romanticize them, but there's nothing romantic about being a shepherd. And they were kind of shady cast offs on the outskirt of society. But they do represent, they do represent a kind of common man, a kind of every man. Am they represent, as chesterton says, ao the people that they are men of the people? These are the ones that the angel invites to come and worship christ. Sit's an incredible sign, then, a that we find them paying homage to the christ child and the manger.
