I've worked with women who have had thoughts that their father might have acted in some inappropriate sexual way at some point far into their past. One of my favorite examples is a patient of mine was driving with her dad to a summer home. And he offered her a banana and in her mind her brain said aha that's not often me a banana that is a substitute for a penis or something like that. So she would sort of interrogate and probe with her father all of this little subtle innuendos if he kissed her and gave her a hug she might think it might have lasted a minute or two or a second too long and that that might have been inappropriate hug.
