Is a Black Hole Hot?

According to einstein, black holes are old. Theu're like infinitely cold, or perfectly cold. But stephen hawkins says that if we live in a quanti mechanical uni verse, than that cannot be true. So he did a bunch of fancy calculations in quantum field theory and discovered the only way this works is if you have radiation coming out of the black hole.
