The Importance of Reading Scripture
There's a kind of dialectic that's always in play with scripture. And it is that scripture both presupposes a certain kind of reader, namely one who is growing in holiness and in discipleship. So it is immediately intelligible on its basic message to anybody who opens up the scripture. At the same time, to be a wise reader of scripture is to be inducted into a pattern of life, of virtue of habits, of discipleship in the church which allows you to see more clearly what scriptures are aiming for.
