Teaching to the Eyes to Develop Competence in Students

Teaching competence in students is tough because we have to assess. When you assess people, you put a number on their head and if that number is low, they feel like they're not very competent. So how do we combat that? That is an essential guiding question for any teacher. One of the ways you can do this in class are teach to the eyes. Make deliberate eye contact and say, yes, oh yes, that's nice. And then keep going. You will see their eyes change. The next student who reads will try and do it properly and say it in the right accent - but your accent is totally okay.
