As a kid, I would not have understood the significance of this at all. The movie very specifically makes references to things that happen in Raiders as if he the Indiana Jones remembers them, but he doesn't because it didn't happen yet. There's there's something really interesting there that this movie not doing as well as they wanted it to artistically or commercially made them go, no, let's just play the hits with Last Crusade and we'll have a whole episode about Crystal Skull.
