Is Race a Big Part of Your Art?
I grew up primarily with my mom. I didn't realize that. Do you feel like that influenced your art? No, but it definitely, maybe in some way or another. In a way, race never came into my work. It allowed me to sort of see the world through all the different people I had to be, our perspectives. And now I use that in a way where it allows me to have empathy and I'm able to have a real connection with people so much different than me. Because there's something that I understand about them.
