The Bogar Effect

Lowland ectotherms have narrow thermal performance curves, it's really hard for them to go up and over cold mountain passes. In turn, tropical mountains are more effective barriers to dispersal which may contribute to high rates of speciation in the tropics. The second major factor that we discuss with martha is the bogar effect. This effect is named after charles bogart who, in the 19 forties, was among the first to realize that how organisms use behaviour to thermo regulate could profoundly affect how their thermal physiology evolves.
