The sciences never caught the actual, living, palpitating reality of life. The only way in which ho discovered what human beings were like was by speaking to them. Communication meant an actual meeting of two human beings. According to harmon, if you wished to read a book, you were not interested in what this book had in common with many other books. If we wished to discover about how to grow plants, and even then, not always correctly, you wish to know about some kind of general principles about the general properties of bodies in general.
