Is This a Lateral Move?

i wonder if this was a sort of a lateral move, because the incomplete nature of the roster is part of the problem. I don't know whether he can pull it off better than most managers, but i think he would be less self conscious about it. The other tidbit we got from that broadcast, mike trout was miked up, and they did alive in game interview with him.
