The Importance of St. John of Damascus
St. John of Damascus was a Syrian monk born in 675 and died around 750 AD. He is most famous for his role in the iconic class controversy. The iconic class wanted to break icons, but they were countered by those who loved icons. Without John of Damascus, there'd be no Sistine Chapel or San Chappelle.
