CHAPTER

The Relationship Between the Womb and the Tomb in Matthew's Gospel

Gospel of Matthew ends with Jesus being buried and appearing to his disciples. Joseph at Arimathea comes asking for the body of Jesus, who is now risen from the dead. It seems fitting that a figure associated with Samuel is bearing him into the chamber from which he will come forth as the risen Lord. The presence of two Josephs brings our minds back to the beginning of the story of the Gospel, which also began with Joseph and Mary.
