In the early version of the African-American Studies curriculum, there was a whole unit to address this issue. It has been removed all together. The AP is moving to the space where some material may not actually be used on the test, but you can opt into studying more deeply a topic. For this particular topic, it couldn't be more pressing as a societal issue covering everything from world crime and the world on drugs to systemic policing.
