The Rock of Panias
The town at the time was Panias named after the false God in the Greek pantheon of Pan. Jesus says not that rock that has a false church dedicated to a false God but upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell is an other interesting detail here because as you face this large rock looming rock cliff there were niches where idols had been placed both for pan and later for Caesar. So all of these elements come together and I could say much more but I don't want to overburden you with a lot of extra detailThese are all part of what make it so powerful and enriching for people to read Bible especially those who have never seen them before
