The subtitle of my first book, Awaken the Wild, is, if I can remember it, mindfulness and nature is a path of self-discovery. And what I quickly realized when we go outside is nature is this profound mirror, and we enter into this deep relationship. It was just very clear from the beginning that being outdoors is its own temple. But for most of human history, practicing in nature was just the thing you did. It wasn't like practicing in nature. The idea of taking people out of urban environments and into natural ones has been kind of a boozhification of nature.
