Women in the New York Philemonic Orchestra
For most of the twentieth century, there were no female musicians in the new york philemmonic orchestra. From the 19 seventies onwards, the numbers of female players started to go up and now stand at over forty five%. Blind ouditions are what they sound like. The hiring committee can't see who is playing in the oudition because there is a screen between them and the player. By the early 19 eighties, women began to make up 50 % of the share of new hires. Still, there is the question of the men who can no longer run in their districts. I can see why men would feel, well, that's just not fair.
