Procedural Generating Is a Good Idea for Game Designers

I agree that often procedural content is more about the look of the thing rather than how it plays. I think as programmers we're always trying to find ways to not be dependent on other people in particular enough to be dependent on graphics artists to make graphics for us. Being procedural is kind of like one of the few ways where programmers can create something that's visually appealing soYeah it's very easy to to want to do that as a programmer if you have the sense that you know you want to do everything yourself and you don't want to be dependent on somebody else doing something for you that you won't be able to change or extend yourself with.
