The wealth gap is widening, but it might not matter. Some of the countries with the highest amount of inequality actually have very high productivity growth rates. The other thing is what also matters is aggregate demand. And if you have a bunch of really rich people generating enormous amounts of returns and spending and are employed then that can offset some poor people who don't spend.
