The Four Steps of Divine Love

Diotema is the origin of the concept of platonic love, or a type of love that is non-sexual. The fourth step is to attain the love of wisdom, and then from this, to the appreciation of divine beauty. Dionysus arrives in the persona of a young and beautiful Alcibiades when Socrates has nearly finished his speech. No matter how hard he has tried, he says, he has never been able to seduce Socrates.
