The Importance of Clarification in the Discussion of Universalism

There's a big difference between the claim that some people in fact are not saved and the claim that it might be true. Origen vacillates on this issue, because he's got positions where he's talking about people who are damned eternally, and then he's got also this other view. It's very difficult to pinpoint what his precise position was. But I do think that we have to clarify whether we're talking about something we know, or whether we're just speculating about what might be possible.
