The Expectation Effect

There are all these things that exist in the world that we kind of know about, or we sort of hear about, or your grandma told you about. Actually, I have a lot of science, more and more science, to help us understand what is this expectation effect. The thing that became most obvious for me as we researched and wrote this book was that humans are always, always trying to control things. We try to control what nursery school our kids get into so that they'll get into the right elementary school. Yet there's no clear promise that if your kid gets into the right nursery school, they're going to be happy. This is far from guaranteed.
