The Role of Stem Cells in Reconstructing the Larynx

In 2010 Martin Burchill performed the world's second laryngeal transplant. The recipient of that new voice box was Brenda Jensen who had lost her ability to talk during surgery 11 years earlier. Stem cells come in handy as they can mature into a whole host of different cell types. So Martin uses a donor larynx merely as scaffolding.
