Is Technology the Best Way to Enforce Tax Law?
GOP Sen. Rob Portman says the IRS is too slow and unresponsive to people's tax returns. The agency has spent $80 billion on technology, but only about 8 billion of that money went toward fixing backlogs or speeding up its operations. A lot of what you're going to get will be direct and aggressive auditing of individuals, said Portman.
