A well crafted joke does not spell out the things that you understand going through the punch line. It causes you to suddenly realize what the punch line of the joke is at the moment when that punch line is rendered. A good way look at this is what of the incredibly well crafted jokes in the wire. One of them probably my favorite go to joke, the incredible reveal of stringer bell is actually dumb.
