Zoe and I had made a routine of talking on the phone in the evenings while walking. We discussed how bountiful this time of growth was. No wonder, Zoe said, that birth and creativity spring from the same chakra. The world was opening up to us, setting us on our paths. When it happened, when the bleeding started, I was at home. In the emergency room, I was asked to wait. One woman was brought in on a stretcher escorted by two policemen. Another woman arrived with a gym bag.
