Aristotle was trying to figure out how we build an understanding of the world. And he says, well, you know, every animal has some kind of perception. This have only the nutritive faculties and growth that their souls are capable of. They don't have perception for Aristotle. There you get the genus and the species. And then he says, some of those animals that have perception have also memory.
