The Law Changed the Expression of Sin

The law which was given at Sinai changed the expression of sin. In pagan societies prior to the advent of Christian faith, sin is operative in some sense but it's dormant. Then when the light of truth comes, suddenly sin is awakened and it starts to display its true power. The person who knows that it is wrong to covet on account of the law will have a very different relationship to lust than the person who is oblivious to it. It ends up quite against its intended purpose, to bring death.
