The Dangers of Biblical Authority
The ancient context of Scripture trips us up sometimes in this regard. We've largely reconciled ourselves to understanding that these human authors of Scripture had some beliefs about the world say that we think today are wrong or misguided. It's trickier when you get to these issues that have more direct theological importance for us like Adam the fall, the origins of humanity. But is there a continuum of some sort there? Even that we see thehuman authors of Scripture responding under inspiration of the Holy Spirit but responding to even theological concerns of their day such that this language is couched in terms that is directly responding to their own cultural context. I think the slippery slope is a real danger in this.
