The Ethiopian regiment was decimated by a smallpox outbreak in less than a year. Titus died from a gangrene infection from a musket wound. When the war ended, the British evacuated almost 300 former slaves to Nova Scotia. Some plantation owners even journeyed to the North, seizing blacks off the streets of New York and Boston.
