The Problem With Trains
In many countries, particularly here in the U.S., public transit is so bad as an experience that people choose to be stuck in traffic rather than taking the train if they have it available. Trains are horrifically expensive to build and cost multiple times more to operate than you ever collect as revenue by selling a ticket. In California, a $5 train ticket is subsidized with nearly $20 per person per ride of taxpayer subsidy. Ultimately, this problem of roads don't move enough people because they're too congested. And we can't build more roads to solve a problem which is well over a century old but economically unsustainable.
