Civil Liberties Violations During the War Between the States

The grandson of Francis Scott Key, the man who wrote the Star Spangled Banner, was a newspaper editor in Baltimore at the time. He wrote in editorials criticizing the illegal suspension of the writ of habeas corpus by Lincoln. And he was dragged into prison at Fort McHenry and couldn't see a lawyer, couldn't call his family. There were hundreds of others like him, literally hundreds who were put into prison without due process.
