Even though David cracked the case, and because his confession, remember after Edward, really opened this whole thing up. The public hated them so much as wife Maureen was even attacked in her apartment elevator during the trial when she was eight months pregnant. After a few years, David would often get beat up at local pubs once he was recognized. He later even got into a fight supposedly over his involvement in the crimes, and he ended up stabbing another man. In 1980, Maureen suffered a brain hemorrhage and died soon after.
