Fukoka embodied kind of a persona, especially to people from the west. It obviously tapped into stereotypes or certain phantasies that many people were looking for in asia. Fukuoko would have them stay up on the mountain in little huts in the citrus orchard. They ate a simple diet of miso soup, brown rice and pickled vegetables. And fukuoka meant toward young seekers who'd made the pilgrimage to his farm to learn.
