The Big Picture Idea Shifted
The great writers tend to be those who a future generation reinterprets their work to mean something else. What is viewed as great changes very often with the changing definition of what is transgressive. People who had ideas that seemed to go against the idea of the culture were maybe unfedling at the time. The book was selected in many ways arbitrarily and there are other great books that could have got picked but didn't.
