The Role of the Brace in Concussions
There is a biological difference in how the head responds to sudden unexpected load. Men rely on neck strength and women rely on anticipation and pre-activation. There are definite sex differences in the game and in the way that we cope with that head, let's call it head load and quotation marks. If you warn women, they are able to prepare for that and have a lesser acceleration than if they're unworned. Whereas in men, they seem to rely more on strength.
