Do You Think the Dutch Empire Reflects on Other European Empires?
The dutch were imagining their empire and trying to run it is very much in contrast to this idea that the english colonies were a place where almost anybody could show up and advance themselves. And they did want a certain elite and the wanted to create a certain model of life and how society should work. A lot of it was kind of being reproduced from what they knew and what they liked back in england. But, you know something, that colonies were also quite diverse in the seventeenth century.
