Is It Good to Front-Load a Head of Sales?

I see a lot of back and forth about early stage companies with product market fit in relation to sales hiring. Do you like to see companies that have one or two sales reps before hiring ahead of sales? This will come once the founders have been selling the product and are serviced successfully. I think sometimes it's good to bring on a head of sales early, but I think it's very contextual.
