I think it's a massive blind spot in our culture that we don't have what other cultures would call a rite of passage for young men. We just don't have any ritualized form of this where men shepherd other men into manhood. What we have instead is a lot of young men doing incredibly stupid shit and getting themselves hurt and killed at far greater rates than women. I say all that just to kind of echo this broader point about the need to channel these instincts to more socially desirable ends.
