I think there's something really fun about putting on instruments you don't know how to play. It's a good argument to always pick up a different instrument and just get sounds out of it. David Bowie, when he record records, he'd have the person still trying to figure this out what to play. And he'd stop them at the point where they were just about to figure it out. That's when he caught what he wanted to catch. He doesn't want to sound right before they figured it out.
