Griffin: Buster Keaton is so much a product of his time. He grew up seeing the funnies and wasn't among the first generation to see them. So he obviously just kind of magpie style pulled from popular culture without ever thinking, I'll do a comic strip on stage. It was just in his brain as a kid. But then he synthesizes it into something that then makes sense in motion, which I think then gets carried into animation out of comic strips.
