Politicians have looked at the f t c and say, oh, the prices are too high. Go after illegality. Now, collusion is one theory of illegality. Price gouging is another thing. And we don't have a general price gouging federal law. The ft doesn't have that. These are two different ways, i think, often politically, of trying to assign blame to a convenient villain for a real problem, which is inflation. It's also an answer that diverts attention from some of the policy moves tha people have made"
