In native sun, bigger's first murder victim, mary and the communist lawyer max are both made to voice finding of the sociologists. The plot also turns on such phenomena as the black belt in chicago where bigger hides out after his crimes. So one can read native sun as a depiction of the way that racis societ structures inevitably corrupt those who are subject to them. i don't mean to say that environment makes consciousness, but i do say that the environment supplies the instrumentalities through which the organism expresses itself.
