i think possessing a gun changes the dynamics of an interaction profoundly. And not being emotionally and psychologically prepared for that responsibility, it is dangerous. I've barely fired any guns since i left the service - that was 20 years ago. What i think permmit requirements for carrying do ultimately in practice is allow police to search and arrest people based on possession of guns rather than proving they intended to commit any sort of serious crime with them.
