The Alcoholic Republic

The founding of this country was steeped in alcohol, use and abuse. And so there's a very rich history of American drunkenness as it were straight through. The levels of alcohol consumption that we had at sort of the founding of the United States drop off precipitously well before what we would consider to be the prohibition era.
