What Is Executive Privilege?

Presidential communications privilege and the deliberative process privilege are subsets of this vague category called executive privilege. It was not a phrase in common use in law stuff until after World War II, right? And on top of all of that, it's not a law passed by Congress. Even though it would be self serving, executive privilege isn't even comprehensively set out in an executive order, right? Like written by the president himself.
